Update 3
Hello everyducky!
It's been a wild week, and we've been hard at work releasing updates to our new game, Bread Crumb Idle. This is our third major update, with the previous patch notes being posted in our debut post. We are still hard at work on some of the things that require balancing and tweaking. Due to this, things may change rapidly as we attempt to ensure things are enjoyable while still providing some challenge and requiring strategy. Large updates will also be more regular, if less often (i.e. on a weekly/bi-weekly cadence). We will attempt to patch game breaking issues/bugs as quickly as possible in the interim however. You all provided so much valuable feedback, and we're so happy that people have been playing our game. Below you'll find the patch notes for our most recent update, and beneath that a link to previous the previous patch notes. We look forward to hearing your feedback on this most recent update as well.
NOTE: There have been some major changes to the research tree, and the shop. Playing on an old save should be fine, but it is HIGHLY recommended that you start a new save to prevent potential errors. You can reset your save by going to the achievements tab and clicking the "reset save" button.
UPDATE 3 (10/6/2022)
Changes
- Experimenting with shopping mechanics
- New market pricing structure will encourage using higher tiered ducks, while not making it a grind-fest
- New market system slowly phases out lower tiers of bread
- Research
- First research now provides a gate to higher tier ducks
- Rare Bread and Rare Science have swapped pre-requisites
- Maximum Bread and Maximum Science have also swapped pre-requisites
- Bread Funnel is now available much earlier, and had its price decreased
- Double XP research cost lowered significantly
- All research times have been decreased to 10/30/60 seconds
- Science bread drop rate research nerfed
- Adjusted some achievements to be in line with new shop changes
- Falling bread setting no longer disables effects in hourly challenge minigame
- Funneled bread images now properly appear next to the proper ducks
- You can now hold right click and drag to funnel multiple ducks with the same bread (This works to funnel AND un-funnel ducks)
Additions
- Duck Filter: Left and Right click will cycle through ducks on the kitchen page, to the left of the "page" buttons
- Added 2 new research items for the hourly challenge
- Added a "rewards won" display in the hourly challenge
- Added a score value and hi-score value to hourly challenge
- Import/Export buttons added to settings page:
- Export will print a string to the console, and copy to the clipboard. If you're unable to copy to the clipboard, you can access the string by hitting the console key-command for your browser (there may be issues with exporting games with large amounts of ducks, we're experimenting with alternatives)
- Import will open a window prompt to paste into
- Added additional tooltips to some of the buttons
Misc
- Performed some backend cleanup for the save string, for future ease of update.
- Fixed a bug that let you replay hourly challenge by refreshing the page during the challenge
- Fixed a bug that disabled the hourly minigame reward
- Fixed (again) a bug that broke the game by going to the max tier
- Fixed science bread from just kinda popping up everywhere
What's Next
We're still working on some exciting additions to the game. We really want to increase the depth of the game, and make it an incremental idle game, not just an idle one. We're also working on getting some music added to the game (don't worry, there'll be a mute option at its inclusion this time!), as well as creation of new sound effects. Offline progress is also top of mind for us as we go forward, but the testing that we've done with it so far is proving difficult to balance. We're hopeful that it will be in a future update but don't want to release a feature that completely invalidates playing actively (or playing at all).

P.S. As time goes on, we're hoping the game grows larger. Right now we have no official discord set up for the game, but would that be something folks would be interested in? Let us know in the comments how you feel. We're also potentially looking for a couple of people who would be willing to help stress-test and balance-test our future updates. We'll have more information on this in the future, as development progresses.
